The South Hams gives you the chance to surf, sail, fish, water- ski and much more. We can arrange pony riding or Golf within a 10 minute drive. You can walk the most breathtaking coastline for entire week without exhausting new tracks and paths.
We provide a great base for watersports in the South Hams with terrific surfing at Bantham and Sailing at Salcombe, Dartmouth and Dittisham.
Kayaking opportunities also abound on the River Dart or around our stunning coastline.
Whether it’s yachts or dinghies you’re spoilt for choice. The famous sailing towns of Salcombe and Dartmouth are both less than half an hour away. Dittisham, with its sailing school, is a ten minute drive. Dinghies can be launched off the beach here. Both Dartmouth and Kingsbridge have good slipways too.
Bantham has a terrific beach for surfing and kitesurfing plus a good surf school. Across the bay, Bigbury is a local hotspot for windsurfing. Challaborough & Lannacombe also get a decent wave in the right conditions.
There are plenty of opportunities for canoes and kayaks. For some real adventure you can try the ‘Loop’ up on Dartmoor (experts only). Kayaking the River Dart is a real adventure from Dartmouth or try the coastal waters only ten minutes away at Torcross and Blackpool Sands.
Climbing adventures abound up on Dartmoor.
There’s also great indoor climbing centres at Dart Rock in Buckfastleigh and the Life Centre in Plymouth.
On horseback is the perfect way to see the local countryside. This can be organised a few miles away.
We are a ten minute drive away from Dartmouth Golf and Country Club where there is a championship course and indoor pool with spa.
Thurlestone Golf Club is also within easy reach providing access to a challenging links course with terrific coastal views.

Distance: 2.75 – 3.25 miles
Grade: Easy to Moderate
Like a satisfying meal, this walk has the shingle sweep of the beach to start, a main course of all the wildlife you could wish for on a National Nature Reserve, and the sweet and characterful village of Slapton for dessert. Perfect!
Distance: 3.75 miles
All of maritime life is here – Start Bay’s great sweep of sea and land, traditional fishing communities, and the mysterious and tragic lost village of Hallsands. The walk wends it way home again along green lanes and footpaths.
Distance: 3.5 miles
Small but perfectly formed, this satisfying circuit is full of character and interest, offering glorious views from the cliffs, the tang of the sea close up on the rocky shore, the rich history of the castle and the beautiful River Dart.
